Matt McClure has enjoyed a prolific start to life at Gloucester City scoring 12 goals in his first 16 league games.
The striker joined from Maidstone United in January and has looked to have found his feet at Meadow Park.
McClure has scored 10 goals in 9 league games this season for the National League North side, helping his side to the top of the table.
“I’ve started well,” the 29-year-old said.
“When I signed here, the main thing was for me to enjoy my football again and play week in week out and luckily I’ve been able to do that.”
McClure formed a lethal front-line partnership with Akwasi Asante who himself bagged 8 goals in 9 games but he has followed James Rowe to National League side Chesterfield.
The former Wycombe Wanderers player revealed he relished playing alongside Asante and hopes he and Tahvon Campbell, City’s new loan signing from Cheltenham Town, can form the same fruitful partnership.
McClure said: “He’s probably one of the favourite strike partners I have had. He does all the bits I don’t want to do so we complimented each other well.
“We’ve signed Tavon (Campbell) and he showed his class today with his goal and his movement. Hopefully we can strike up a similar partnership,” he said following his side’s 2-1 defeat to Farsley Celtic.
Rowe had an enormous impact at City instigating a change of fortunes.
Having finished 17th in the league last season he has guided the Tigers to top of the table this season and McClure revealed Rowe had a huge impact on his style of play.
“It was more at Aldershot where he coached me and told me how he wants to play. It was a natural fit when he asked me to come here last year,” the striker said.
McClure is hopeful the new manager can also have a positive impact on him and his teammates claiming, “I’m sure whoever comes in I can adapt to the way they want to play as well.”
The City frontman is currently nursing a leg injury that he sustained in his side’s 2-1 victory at Guiseley and is awaiting further confirmation for the length of he will remain side-lined.
In form Boston United will visit Meadow Park for City’s next match on Tuesday night.
