Matt McClure has enjoyed a prolific start to life at Gloucester City scoring 12 goals in his first 16 league games.

McClure has scored 10 goals in 9 league games this season for the National League North side, helping his side to the top of the table.

“I’ve started well,” the 29-year-old said.

“When I signed here, the main thing was for me to enjoy my football again and play week in week out and luckily I’ve been able to do that.”

The former Wycombe Wanderers player revealed he relished playing alongside Asante and hopes he and Tahvon Campbell, City’s new loan signing from Cheltenham Town, can form the same fruitful partnership.

McClure said: “He’s probably one of the favourite strike partners I have had. He does all the bits I don’t want to do so we complimented each other well.

“We’ve signed Tavon (Campbell) and he showed his class today with his goal and his movement. Hopefully we can strike up a similar partnership,” he said following his side’s 2-1 defeat to Farsley Celtic.

McClure is hopeful the new manager can also have a positive impact on him and his teammates claiming, “I’m sure whoever comes in I can adapt to the way they want to play as well.”
