Match Preview: Forest Green Rovers vs Newport County

Forest Green Rovers welcome league leaders Newport to the Innocent New Lawn on Tuesday night.

Rovers return to action after having had the weekend off following their FA Cup exit to the hands of Lincoln earlier in the month.

Rovers have had a hectic schedule in recent months and Mark Cooper and his side will have been grateful for the opportunity to recharge their batteries.

Coming into the game, Rovers sit fourth in the league after they climbed up the standings following a narrow one-nil victory against Southend last Tuesday.

Newport however didn’t have the luxury of having a weekend off as they beat Salford three-nil in the second round of the FA Cup.

The Exiles have been flying in the league so far having only lost two games all season.

Former Newport man Jamille Matt will be hoping to extend his tally for Rovers. The 31-year-old has netted five times already this season and looks a real focal point for Cooper’s attack.

Scott Twine will be one to watch for Newport. The forward, who is on loan from Swindon, has bagged five goals across all competitions with his most recent coming in a one-all draw against Walsall.

Neither Forest Green or Newport have any fresh injuries to report on ahead of this fixture however, Kyle Howkins is still sidelined for the Welsh side.
