2:40pm – BetMGM Cup Hurdle (Coral Cup)
Winner – Jingko Blue
Jingko Blue, led by 2-3 lengths the entire race, stayed incredibly well. Was slightly challenged by Franciscan Rock, who came second, and Storm Heart, who was third, but never looked in doubt. Ballyadam came on strong two out to finish a respectable fourth. James Bowen gets his second festival winner.
Trainer Nicky Henderson said it was not the plan to lead from the front after securing his third winner of the week at the Cheltenham Festival.
Speaking to ITV Racing, Henderson praised jockey James Bowen for his ride.
“I thought James was interesting. It wasn’t exactly the plan to make the running, but he did it exceptionally well, didn’t he?” Henderson said.
“He’s not the easiest horse, but that was great.”
2:00pm – Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase
Winner – Kitzbuhel
Kitzbuhel led the entire race. Fought off efforts from Final Demand and Koktail Divin two out. Salver stayed well to come in a 5-length third. Wendigo made an effort but fell at the last. Favourite Romeo Coolio pulled three out. Kitzbuhel stayed strong, contesting a strong effort from Final Demand in the final furlong. Won by half a length.
Jockey Harry Cobden, who rode Kitzbuhel, praised the horse after the race when speaking to ITV Racing.
“Yeah, he was brilliant today. He was very brave,” Cobden said.
“He was lugging right the whole way, which is why I kept him down the middle. I had to switch him down the hill because I wanted to make him come round me.
“He was so brave at the second last and the last. Everywhere I asked him, he delivered.”
1:20pm – Turner’s Novices Hurdle
Winner – King Rasko Grey
King Rasko Grey stayed with the leaders throughout, travelled well and jumped smoothly. Townend positioned nicely. Kicked on after the second last alongside Act of Innocence and stayed well up the hill, beating it and Zeus Power.
Jockey Paul Townend, who rode King Rasko Grey to victory, was full of praise for the horse when speaking to ITV Racing after the race.
“I love this horse. He’s still a little babyish, but he’s a great horse,” said Townend.
“Galopin Des Champs has brought us the highest of the highs; hopefully this horse will bring us even half of those.”
Elsewhere, trainer Declan Queally, whose horse I’ll Sort That ran in the opening race at the Cheltenham Festival, complained about abuse he said he was receiving from “an English jockey” at the start.
Responding on ITV Racing, jockey Nico de Boinville dismissed the criticism.
“Maybe he should look in the mirror,” de Boinville said.
