Darrell Clarke’s first words as new Cheltenham Town manager

Cheltenham Town officially unveiled Darrell Clarke as new first team manager today and he spoke to the club’s media for the first time.

Speaking to the press Clarke said:

“Yeah very delighted [on joining], it’s a club with a great history, they’ve had some good managers over the years and I’m really looking forward to the challenge.”

“It’s a decent enough set up, it could do with a lick of paint here there and everywhere and a bit of a freshen up but in general I’m happy with the facilities, we’ve got everything that we need here to try and progress.”

Clarke also explained why the job appealed to him and how it came about:

“Yeah it’s always a club that I’ve thought’s been a well run football club in the past, I looked at it and put my CV in, obviously with plenty of games I’ve managed now, plenty of experience and I thought it’s a job that I could make a difference in.”

The former Port Vale and Bristol Rovers manager was at The Robins’ 2-0 loss to Lincoln on the weekend.

“I’ve watched all the games back this season and there’s no quick fix, that’s where I stand at the minute, the confidence is obviously low but it’s up to to myself and my staff to pick that up and get the team working how I want them to be working so there’s a lot of work to be done on the training ground and making sure that we’re well prepared for each game.”
