Chris Jones leads the Swindon Wildcats to a 4-2 victory over the Peterborough Phantoms

The Swindon Wildcats defeated the Peterborough Phantoms 4-2 with another professional home ice performance.

After extending his contract for the 24/25 season during the week, Jones put on a show tonight for the fans scoring two massive goals.

Head Coach Aaron Nell was very happy with how the team battled saying “Renny made a big save which was a turning point.”

“I thought Jonsey had a great night and Eddie was really good tonight” added Aaron as they both signed a one year extension earlier this week.

Despite the Phantoms taking the lead within the first two minutes, the Wildcats battled back and held on to get back to winning ways after their defeat last weekend in Hull.

Renny Marr won the battle of the brothers in net as he picked up the Wildcats man of the match and made some huge saves throughout the game.

Match report:

The Phantoms came strong out the blocks and opened the scoring with a tip in from Jarvis Hunt directing it past Renny Marr.

The Wildcats responded well on the powerplay with Tomasz Malasinski feeding Colby Tower who backhanded it into the top corner past Jordan Marr.

Malasinski then had a one on one breakaway but his effort ringed off the post keeping it all square at the break.

End of the first: Wildcats 1-1 Phantoms

It was a fast start to the second for the Cats with Glenn Billing firing it past his former team.

The home side kept up the pressure and scored a beautiful team goal starting with Edgars Bebris and ending with a first time slap shot from Jones.

However the Phantoms battled back into the game with Jasper Foster squeezing the puck through Renny Marr to make it a one goal game going into the third.

End of the second: Wildcats 3-2 Phantoms

The Wildcats had some early penalty killing to do with Renny Marr making some acrobatic saves to deny Luke Ferrara and Duncan Spiers.

Jones then grabbed his second of the game as he received a fantastic pass from Tower and he made no mistake sniping it into the roof of the net.

The Phantoms pulled the goalie for the extra skater but the Cats defence held firm and secured the 4-2 victory.

Final score: Wildcats 4-2 Phantoms

The Cats are straight back into action tomorrow night at The Link Centre where they face the Raiders IHC hoping to secure a four point weekend.
