Cheltenham Festival Day Two: Fabulous Fact To File

Fact to File won the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase, the second race on Wednesday to make Willie Mullins just one win short of 100 Festival winners.

Paul Townend wasn’t on the odds-on favourite, but retained rider for champion owner JP McManus Mark Walsh got his first winner of the week.

In the six-runner field, Fact To File was held up one form the rear, with the field led by Stay Away who was wearing cheekpieces for the first time after his third in the Cotswold Chase on Trials’ Day.

Despite being around three lengths off the leading quartet, Fact To File put in some convincing leaps, despite running a little keen in the early stages.

On the second lap, Sandor Clegane led the field along with Stay Away Fay, with Fact To File creeping a little closer, relegating American Mike briefly.

On the run for home, Mark Walsh seized the initiative and passed Sandor Cleagne but was joined by Monty’s Star at the last.

However at the last, Fact To File gained the momentum and powered up the hill to win by three lengths ahead of Monty’s Star.

Along as this being Mullins’ 99th winner, owner JP McManus achieved his 75th victory at the Cheltenham Festival.
