It was the Robins’ first away win in the four games on the road and it moves them to within three points off league leaders Newport County.
Goals from William Boyle and Conor Thomas ensured Michael Duff’s side came away with three points despite Jon Mellish pulling a goal back for Carlisle on the stroke of half time.
Duff was pleased with his side’s performance and revealed that he was surprised with the way they carried themselves.
Speaking to Gloucestershire Live Duff spoke of the performance: “Delighted and I almost asked the lads for a dogged performance. I didn’t expect it to turn out like that.
“I was happy with the shape and mentality of the team.”
It was a landmark 500th league appearance for goalkeeper Scott Flinders as he also put in great shift in goal.
