Cheltenham Town Ladies Aimme Watson says “The standard of refereeing wasn’t there today”

Cheltenham Town ladies suffered a 3-1 defeat to Rugby Borough with the away side receiving two controversial penalties.

Goalkeeper Aimme Watson was disappointed with the level of refereeing and expects them to be better considering the standard of the league.

Rugby was given a penalty just ten minutes into the game which was initially saved by Watson however the rebound was followed in.

Cheltenham managed to get an equalizer just before half time which set up an exciting second half.

However, another penalty was awarded to the away side which put the game out of reach for Cheltenham and handed all three points to Rugby.

Watson added “The league needs to do better to get better referees in.”

“Especially when its 1-1 and you get a big decision like that taken place, it’s just not good enough,” said Watson.

This defeat drops Cheltenham down to 8th position in the FA Southern Premier Division with their next game taking place against Oxford United on Thursday.

Despite the poor refereeing Watson still took some positives from the game saying, “there were some good individual performances out there from the ladies.”

“We just have to group together now, train hard on Tuesday, work on specific things and we go again on Thursday” added Watson.

Manager Tom Davies said, “we created moments but to get the results we need to create more of those moments and take them.”

“We need to be more authoritative and make sure the game gets played the way we want it to, and we can make sure to do that on Thursday.” Added Tom.

A win would put Cheltenham level with Oxford on ten points.

Robinesses striker Pheobe Poole is looking to build on her impressive start to the season with five goals and five assists.
