The heavy favourite Monkfish 8/15 has won the Brown Advisory Novices Hurdle in the second race of Cheltenham Festival day two as the Irish continue to dominate on St. Patrick’s Day.
Monkfish, ridden by Paul Townsend, unsurprisingly won by over four lengths ahead of Fiddlerontheroof in second.
It wasn’t completely comfortable for Monkfish though, who missed his usual smoothness and struggled to build a lead until the last straight.
After the race, owner Willie Mullins revealed to ITV Sport just how nervous the stumble on the last hurdle had got him.
“That was probably the most nerve-racking race I’ve ever watched in my life,” Mullins said.
Monkfish crossed the line with a time of 6m 11.08s and secured Mullins £73,854.
