England 60s Cricket captain Edward Gordon Lennox believes that this year’s Grey Ashes was a “great result” for seniors cricket ahead of next year’s World Cup.
The upcoming tournament in Canada is a great opportunity for senior age grade cricket to grow and build a new audience in a different continent.
Gordon Lennox is confident of a strong performance in Canada after defeat in the Chennai final to their Australian rivals in 2024, a game in which England were defeated by eight wickets.
“It’s the third World Cup after Australia and India, Canada is an interesting place to be holding it,” Gordon Lennox said.

“England Seniors had a trip out there last year and the facilities and conditions were interesting so let’s hope the powers that be can help us out.
“It’s another reason to play international cricket at this great age is to go to the World Cup and we need to prepare for it properly and hopefully get the rub of the green.”
It was the hosts that opened the batting with Neil Brathwaite and Mel Hussain putting together a 129-run opening wicket partnership which set England up for a score of 269 runs from their 45 overs before the rain fell.

Australia had an adjusted total of 194 runs to reach from 29 overs and they got very close as with the match ending tied after Gordon Lennox and his side managed to defend only six runs in the final over.
“Having lost 3-2 in Australia back at the end of last year where we were slow to get off the mark it was nice to have the Australians back for a very competitive series,” Gordon Lennox added.
“Of course the final game was impacted by the weather for the first time in what was one of the best summers and the Australians needed six of the last over and they only got five.
“It was an extraordinary end, we can all look at ourselves in the mirror and say we could’ve done better but what a great result for seniors cricket around not only England and Australia but around the world.”
As well as the Grey Ashes, England took on the West Indies in June and the USA in August which offered England the opportunity to try experiment with the side.

In the two fixtures that England batted first against the Americans, Gordon Lennox’s side scored over 350 and achieved a total of 382 which was the highest total in the side’s history.
“What the USA series allowed us to do was see how good we can be and get the mindset. We need to believe that we can score high 300s against not only the USA but others and we all need to bat not just for ourselves but as a squad.”
