Alfred Schreuder linked with vacant Leeds United post following sighting at the team hotel

Former Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder has been linked with the vacant role at Leeds United following reports that the Dutchman had been spotted at the team hotel.

Schreuder has come out of nowhere as a lead contender for the role at Elland Road following his sacking from Ajax in January.

Leeds have been looking for a manager since the sacking of American coach Jesse Marsch last week and are looking to act quickly to appoint a new man in the dugout.

Former assistant Michael Skubala has been in charge on an interim basis following the departure of Marsch, guiding the team to a draw and a loss against Manchester United as they faced their local rivals twice in a week.

The career of Schreuder has been a mixed bag so far, with most of his experience coming as an assistant to various managers.

His first chance in the dugout came at FC Twente, where he was sacked after picking up just one point in the opening four games of the season.

In fact, the only job Schreuder hasn’t been sacked from was at Club Brugge in Belgium, where he won the league before being picked up by Ajax to replace Manchester United-bound Erik ten Hag.

Leeds currently sits in 17th place in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone, however, they have played one more game than Everton behind them.

Whoever they choose to take the hot seat, The Peacocks need an instant impact from any new manager.

Maybe they should be looking to take a leaf out of Everton’s book, appointing a proven winner who should be able to guide them to safety.

Someone like Sam Allardyce could be a safer pair of hands for Leeds, even if it proved to just be a stop-gap until the end of the season.
