“We need to reflect, improve and move forward” – Swindon Town Women manager Richard Wood reflects on their 3-2 defeat last night

Manager Richard Wood reflects on a frustrating 3-2 defeat last night against Maidenhead Town Women in their latest FA Women’s National League fixture.

Holly Beck-Esson opened the scoring with an early finish for Town in the first 45 followed up with Annie Colston to add a goal shortly after.

Swindon Town Women saw frustration into the second half, as the home side scored in the first two minutes of the last 45 followed by two more goals which sealed the victory for their side.

Town fell to their second defeat in one week after suffering a 2-1 defeat on Sunday afternoon against Bridgwater United Women and Wood is frustrated with these results.

“Last night was a terrible result and it has not been a very good week at all.

We were hoping for a massive reaction from the game against Bridgwater and to be fair I think we got that in the first half against Maidenhead but we shouldn’t of lost the game.”

Swindon Town Women saw a couple of cards last night shown from the referee and boos Wood was not pleased about these decisions.

“We need to be more respectful of our oppositions to make sure that we are protecting ourselves better when we are 2-0 up in a game.

“We don’t need to go and try win that by four, five or six we need to protect what we have got and need to be more respectful and patient in my opinion.

Town Women look ahead to a mini break in the league and will next play Keynsham Town ladies at home on March 17.

“The break is much needed and I think mentally its going to be a disappointing week for everybody. We all need to reflect and look where we need to improve and then move on.
