“With the rivalry there is always more to these games” University of Gloucestershire Men’s Footballer Jasper Hudson On upcoming Varsity fixture.

After last year’s fixture was cancelled, University of Gloucestershire men’s football will be competing in Varsity as they take on the University of Worcestershire next week.

Jasper Hudson, a first year student was included in the Varsity squad in the recent announcement.

The 19 year old full-back said: “I was fairly happy, obviously progressing from the seconds to the firsts halfway through the season, a lot of my performances I’ve been really happy with, so i’m glad to make the squad.”

The full-back looked ahead to next week, with UoG hitting a tough run of form since the turn of the year.

I’m definitely looking forward to it, it’s gonna be interesting going into the game a bit out of form, and we’ve got a chance against Southampton to get some form back and see how we get on.”

Hudson, who has played on both sides of the back four this season, touched on the preparations going into the fixture.

We’re training really well and had lots of sessions mainly working on tactical stuff, getting the fitness levels up and making sure we’re as ready as possible.

Hudson, being a first year student, has looked to his seniors within the squad who have experience playing in these fixtures.

“I can see looking at the third and second years how much they want to win, you can see the intensity in training, the preparations too, they’re definitely putting in a lot of effort for this.”

In absence of last year’s fixture due to Worcestershire being ineligible to compete, UoG took on Hartpury in a friendly which they were defeated 1-0.

Hudson briefly mentioned how important winning varsity is for him and his peers.

You always want to win games of football, it’s as simple as that, especially with the rivalry there always is more to these games, it’s not just another game, this one means more, there is more to it,” he said.

This years fixture will take place next Wednesday on March 20.
