It’s been a brilliant start to the season for Robbie Savage and Forest Green, and they had remained unbeaten in all competitions until Kyron Gordon’s only goal made the difference for the away side.
That goal meant that the Greater Manchester side went above FGR in the league table but with now two weeks until the next league game there’s time for the team to reset ahead of a long trip to Carlisle.
The season so far
An away trip to Solihull Moors started the campaign and despite an early red card for Darius Lipsiuc plus goals from Christian Doidge and Nick Haughton they had to settle for a point.
Despite that they were good money for it and could’ve easily claimed all three points on a different day if one of the many chances fell their way.

After a victory in the National League Cup, Savage’s side won four games in a row which included wins at home to Sutton and Yeovil and away at Halifax.
Next up was a 0-0 draw to Braintree before an important victory in Morecambe coming from behind thanks to a double from Tom Knowles and another by Kyle McAllister.
The form continued throughout September with victories at Woking and Altrincham however after two points in three games the FA Cup break comes with the team sat one point off the top of the table now looking ahead to a trip to Worthing in front of the TNT live cameras.
What Robbie Savage thinks
“I’m gutted, we knew the unbeaten run would come to an end,” Savage said after Rochdale. “Two good teams but at this level the game hinges on big moments and they took theirs. We had one in the first minute and we have to score that, nobody means to miss but when you go through one-on-one you have to score.
“It’s not a case of us now resetting because we are doing loads right, I said to the boys be proud, 14 games one defeat, it’s brilliant we’re second in the league. We’ve got very good players, a good attitude and a great group but the higher you go and the bigger the games it’s about moments.”
“I wish [the next fixture] was Tuesday to be fair but it’s going to be on the TV, it’s a big one for us.”
Going into the next block of fixtures
Worthing in the FA Cup first round presents a different challenge for the Forest Green team with the added pressure of everything that comes with a fixture of that stature.
They will also know before the game who they are facing in the next round of the Cup with the draw taking place at 6:30 live on TNT ahead of the fixture at the Sussex Transport Community Stadium.

It then doesn’t get any easier for Savage’s side as they travel to Cumbria to play Carlisle before hosting Boreham Wood, who currently sit fourth in the table, at The New Lawn at the end of October.
November is a big month with five league fixtures, one possible FA Cup tie and one National League Cup it could be what you’d look back on at the end of the season as a turning point with home fixtures versus Tamworth, Gateshead and Southend as well as trips to Aldershot and Wealdstone.
