“We showed how good we can be and we can mix it with AFC Totton and Merthyr” – Gloucester City MOTM Ed Williams

Gloucester City’s Ed Williams believes their 0-0 draw with AFC Totton shows they can compete with the top teams in their division.

The point means the Tigers are on 53 points just three points behind Totton, although the Hampshire outfit have two games in hand, with league leaders Merthyr on 66 points having played the same amount of games as City.

“We showed how good we can be, it is just that last little bit. Totton are second but I do believe we have shown we can mix it with them and Merthyr and we definitely deserve to be up there,” Williams said.

“It was a tough battle, the draw was probably a fair result, we had two big chances in the second half and we are gutted not to have put them away,” Williams said.

“It is nice to get the man of the match award but a lot of boys put in a massive shift in today.

“Daws (Kevin Dawson) was outstanding again today, so was Pinchy (Harry Pinchard), but it is a shame we cant get those big goals that are going to change games.

Williams admitted that the Gloucester City forward line does not have the same physical presence like other teams in the league, and have to work hard to create those chances and carve teams open.

Williams is hoping that the team can time the run perfectly towards the end of the season and make the playoffs.

“We have got to focus on ourselves if we time it right like I said we can make the play-offs, we need to build momentum and then lets see where that takes us.”

City play Basingstoke next away on Saturday, February 8.
