Manager Sam Rose praised striker Phoebie Poole after her performance in the 3-0 win over Gwalia United on Sunday.

Poole’s hat trick pushed the U’s up to third in the National League south.

“I’m really pleased, 3-0, clean sheet, Phoebie Poole has been outstanding today it was a complete number 9 performance I’ve seen I think from a player in our side, everyone has worked tremendously hard behind her to ultimately making sure we don’t concede a goal.”

Oxford are now five games unbeaten in the league, winning four and drawing one that being last week against Lewes where Rose’s side found it difficult: “We dug in against Lewes last week and we dug in again today, we’ve also played some good football played with some quality, had lots of chances in the first half, the girls have been absolutely outstanding today and full credit to them, they’ve been brilliant.”

The U’s move up to third place in the league, seven points off league leaders Hashtag United. Up next for the yellow’s they face fourth place Exeter City at the MGroup stadium on Sunday 9 March. Rose and his side look to finish as high as possible coming into the last stretch of the season:

“That’s where we won’t to be (third)

We are looking forward to the last four games. We should be full of confidence, we are doing both side’s of the game at the moment, when we have to fight and scrap we are able to do that as well which is really encouraging, the players have been brilliant.”
