University of Gloucestershire Men’s Football host Solent University at Plock Court on Wednesday afternoon, where a win could potentially secure a second title in two seasons.
Midfielder Adam Smith is confident that the team can get over the line, whether that is on the day or further down the line.
“It would obviously be great to win it (the league) at home. To do it in front of our fans would be extra special.
“But we know results will have to go our way for that to happen so as long as we do our job and get the three points on the day then we know we will be even closer.”
Gloucestershire are currently on a great run of form, winning their last three games in all competitions and scoring 16 goals in the process.
Smith admitted that the connections formed both on and off the pitch have played a major part in their success so far this campaign.
“The team is firing on all cylinders right now and our performances in front of goal have been incredible.
“We’re a real close group away from match-days and training and I believe that it’s helping us deliver results on Wednesday afternoons.”
UOG have already faced Solent in the league this season, seeing off the Southampton-based side 4-2 away from home.
The 19-year-old appreciates the difficulty of the fixture and knows complacency cannot be allowed to slip in.
“It’s going to be a very tough game. They have picked up some positive results in recent weeks, but we will just focus on ourselves and hopefully perform well in our final home game of the season.”
“We put in a really good performance last time out against them. We played them early in the season and with a lot of new faces coming in this year, I believe we have come on leaps and bounds since that game.”
Gloucestershire still have the opportunity to secure an unprecedented treble this season of the league, cup and varsity.
Smith is excited by the chance to create a piece of history for the University but is not letting himself get carried away.
“It would mean a lot. Winning the league last year was an unbelievable feeling but on the flip side, falling short in the cup and varsity was horrible.
“This year we are hoping to redeem ourselves on those fronts and having such a good group of lads, we believe we can achieve something great this season.”
