Cheltenham Town Ladies FA Cup

‘Very pleased to be in the next round!’- Cheltenham Women’s manager Tom Davies on 7-0 triumph over Yeovil Town in Women’s FA Cup

Cheltenham Town Women booked their place in the Second Round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup on Sunday, after a resounding 7-0 win over Tier Six side Yeovil Town at Kayte Lane.

Goals from Abbey Hateley, Una Lue, Anais Trinci, Libby Bell, Jess Leach, Emily Owen and an own goal capped off a successful afternoon for Tom Davies’ side. He was delighted to advance in the FA Cup, after quite a tough run of Women’s National League Southern Premier results, which has seen them without a triumph since August.

As well as reaching the Second Round, and earning £6,000 for advancing, the Robinesses are also in the Quarter-Finals of the WNL Plate, where they travel to Stockport County on Sunday December 1.

“Really positive! It was a tough game, especially how they set up. We had to find solutions, we’ve worked hard in training to achieve that.

“It shows we’re learning, we’re improving. We did well to get into those spaces, created those opportunities. Overall, really pleased to be in the next round.” Davies stated.

The game saw six different goalscorers, including Hateley, Leach, and Trinci who all got their first goals for the Robinesses. Bell also claimed her second goal of the season, and Lue got her sixth of the campaign.

Davies was delighted to see goals share across the team, as he said, “If you’re based on just one player getting those goals it becomes difficult. The goals scored were goals we’d been working on. It’s nice to see that fluidity.

“There is work to do, we did miss chances, their keeper (Hannah Bishop) had a fantastic game and made lots of good saves. It’s great to see it shared around!”

Next up for Cheltenham is the visit of Ipswich Town to Kayte Lane on Sunday November 10. The Tractor Girls currently sit 3rd in the WNL Southern Premier, unbeaten in the league. They come off thrashing MK Dons 12-0 in the FA Cup at the weekend.

“It’s a bit of yin and yang in terms of where both clubs are at. It’s an opportunity to play a different aspect of our game.

“How we progress the ball, how we press, how we implement those things together. We had a great game against them here last year, (Feb 2024, 2-2) and against Hashtag. (1-1)

“We have no fear, we’ll go into the game and give it our best shot.” Davies concluded.

The Robinesses have found out their opponents for the Second Round, as they will welcome Moneyfields Women to Kayte Lane on Sunday November 24.

Moneys currently sit 3rd in the WNL Division One South West, behind AFC Bournemouth and Swindon Town. They beat Bournemouth Sports 1-0 to reach the Second Round, with Shannon Albuery netting the winner ten minutes from time.
