Újpest II. youngster Fedor Futsek eyes promotion to first team: “This is the best place to achieve that”

Újpest are currently in fifth position in the Hungarian First Division (OTP Bank Liga), just three points shy of the European positions during the current international break.

After making the switch from Fehérvár, where he played for four years, to play in the fourth district of the Hungarian capital last winter, Fedor Futsek has a clear goal for the rest of the season.

The 19-year-old currently plays in the second team that is the third division in the Hungarian pyramid. Coming back from a leg injury, he could be substituted on against III. Kerület during the final minutes on Sunday, November 24.

“My goal is to get promoted to the first team from the second,” the player underlined, as he began his first full season with the team.

After joining from Fehérvár, he has already completed his first games in the adult league, after he is now no longer eligible to play for the U19s. “The philosophy is completely different between Fehérvár and UTE.

“Right now in the Hungarian leagues, Újpest are the best place to get minutes in the First Division,” he continued about his new team.

This season also marks the first complete season where Futsek is solely playing in Újpest’s adult setup, after graduating from their side in the top national U19s division. Now making the next step his career, Futsek is relishing a greater challenge.

“Everything is much faster, you have much less time to make decisions on the pitch. Every small technical detail has to be done more efficiently there,” he said.

Újpest’s development and second team are currently in 11th position in NB3, and will travel to league-leaders Bicske next weekend.
