“They’ve shown that they can beat anybody”: Cheltenham Town manager Michael Flynn expects a tough match-up ahead of Accrington clash

Michael Flynn believes Accrington‘s away win at Crewe on the weekend is a warning sign for his players ahead of tomorrow nights fixture.

Despite Accrington being 21st, they’re in a good run of form picking up nine points in the last four league matches as they faced Crewe, Colchester United and Grimsby Town.

“They’ve shown that they can beat anybody, they’ve just beaten Crewe away who were second in the league. No game is a gimme in this division and we need to be at our very very best to get anything,” Flynn said.

Cheltenham beat Accrington 2-1 in the reverse fixture at the EV Charger Points Stadium in October with Manni Norkett and Ryan Bowman sealing the three points for The Robins.

Flynn understands that the reverse fixture result wasn’t fair on Accrington’s performance first time round.

“We beat them here but I thought they were very good, they caused us problems, they had pace, I know they lost (Dara) Costelloe but they’ve got a good team and a good bunch of boys that give their all day in day out and week in week out for the football club and the manager,” he said.

Cheltenham have only picked up ten points on their travels this season, the fourth lowest in the league.

The Welshman knows that his sides away form has been disappointing but a good run of away form can send The Robins right into the mix at the top.

“Yeah we are, that’s the disappointing thing, but we’re a young team, inexperienced, seeing games through, seeing games out. We should have got a point at Grimsby, should have beaten MK Dons, should have beaten Salford away, you know the list goes on. We’ve left a lot of points out there but that’s what we get when we’re rebuilding,” he said.

Flynn believes his players won’t make it further up the leagues if they’re struggling with pressure at this level of English football.

“I’m not buying into pressure from four or five thousand fans, if they’re under pressure with that then they’re going to struggle to go up the leagues if they get moves. They should go out and enjoy it, the busier the crowd, the more hostile the crowd I used to love it,” he said.
