Forest Green Rovers head of women’s football Louise Fensome is of the opinion that “the support from the club is great” ahead of their dedicated Her Game Too fixture this weekend against Pucklechurch Sports Ladies.
Rovers have a Gloucestershire FA County Cup semi-final against Cheltenham Town to contend with first this evening before this weekend’s clash. Therefore, Fensome has stressed that the squad will need to be kept fresh.
“We’ve had three games in the last six days, and squad rotation is really key at this point in the season. We’ve got a few players with injuries as well, so we’ll be kind of protecting and managing their load.”

Ahead of their clash at the weekend back in the league, Fensome touched on the importance of exposure for the women’s game, she said: “It’s really important and really good for women’s football as a whole. They can see the standard that we have across Gloucestershire and get on board with the women’s team and what we’re about.
“The game on Saturday is in relation to International Women’s Day which was last Saturday, so we’re showcasing that, but it’s also a game that is dedicated to the Her Game Too campaign, which is an organisation that was set up in 2021 to support equality in sport, not just football. It’s dedicated to Her Game Too to promote that as well.”
Fensome’s side last appeared at the New Lawn back in September when they defeated AEK Boco Ladies 4-1 after goals from Hattie Jones, Carys Lowley, Rhian Robbins and Victoria Taylor.
“It’s a good step in the right direction for us as Forest Green Women. We have the support from the club as a whole, which is great, and now have two games there this season, and hopefully that will continue into next year. Having more games at the New Lawn will showcase what we’re about and what we do.”

Despite Rovers sitting 13 points behind leaders Marine Academy Plymouth Ladies, Fensome believes that the side have still made strides.
“I’m positive with where we’re at. Yes, we were pushing for promotion and the likelihood is that we now won’t get promoted, but looking at where we’ve come from, to where we’re at now and the depth that we have in the squad, it’s been a great season for all.
“In terms of last year to this year, we’ve won more games, we’ve got more points, we’ve scored more goals, so it’s a really good and interesting year and I look forward to the remainder of the season.”
