State Man claimed victory in the fourth race of the day, the favourite, trained by the infamous Willie Mullins won ahead of fellow runners Irish Point and Luccia.
The seven year-old horse won the eight hurdle race after taking the lead on the penultimate hurdle, to claim trainer Mullins his 96th Cheltenham win.
Jockey Paul Townsend was described as “superb” by trainer Mullins, with Townsend himself saying, “To get my name on this trophy is really special.”
State Man earned £262,078 for the victory, and was the favourite heading into the race at 4/11, with the win being the second of the day for Townsend.
The eight hurdle race was run on heavy ground after gentle rainfall at Prestbury Park today.
