League Title Begins To Run Away From Forest Green Rovers Women After 0-0 Draw On Hartpury Return

Forest Green Rovers Women were held to a 0-0 draw at home to mid table Liskeard Athletic Women to all but end their chances at the Southwest Regional Premier Division title.

In the first game at their home of Hartpury College in 2023 Tom Needham’s side were unable to pick up three points as the sides played out a second draw of the season.

There was a new signing in the matchday squad for Rovers as former striker Rhian Robbins, sister of fellow FGR player Charlotte, returned to the club signing from Portishead Town Ladies.

After a slow first half both teams came close in the second 45 as captain Hattie Jones had two long range efforts that strayed just wide before a thunderous Ellie Bishop strike rattled the bar for the visitors.

Rovers nearly won it 10 minutes from time but both substitute Faith Pound and ace Nynka Rucker were superbly denied by the gloves of Liskeard keeper Sara Rowe.

The draw sees Rovers drop to second in the table and with both Torquay United and Bristol Rovers Women close by with multiple games in hand, any chances of a league title and subsequent promotion now look slim.

Needham’s side still have a strong chance to gain silverware this season however as they are the highest ranked team left in the Gloucestershire FA Trophy, ahead of their quarter final against Tuffley Rovers in a few weeks’ time.

But first for Rovers is another tough test in the league as they host fourth place Sherborne Town Ladies, as they look to avenge their defeat against the Zebras earlier this month.
