Lee Carsley’s Lions full of injury concerns ahead of Nations League international break

With The Premier League weekend coming to a close, the focus has now shifted to the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures for England and interim manager Lee Carsley.

Carsley will likely be without the trio of Ezri Konsa, Morgan Gibbs-White and captain, Harry Kane for the fixtures as each were taken off in their respective games over the weekend.

Konsa came off after just 12 minutes in Aston Villa’s 0-0 draw with Manchester United. Kane was taken off after receiving treatment on his ankle midway through the second half of Bayern Munich’s 3-3 stalemate with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Gibbs-White also suffered an ankle injury in Nottingham Forest’s weekend fixture with Nuno Espirito Santo confirming the attacker would be undergoing a scan before being sent on international duty.

The Three Lions take on Greece at Wembley on Thursday where each side will be looking to continue their unbeaten starts in Group B2.

This will soon be followed by a trip to Helsinki to play Finland on Sunday. The former under-21’s manager will be looking to impress the FA before they make a final decision on the next permanent manager of the national team.

Carsley, who is an ex-Everton midfielder, was given the job in August after a successful stint as the boss of the under-21s where he won the European Championships in 2023, defeating Spain in the final.

It is yet to be confirmed who will be the next manager as the FA look for who they hope will win England the World Cup when the Three Lions cross the Atlantic in 2026.

Carsley will be looking to prove that he can be successful with an injury-littered side, a common occurrence when managing international football.
