Joan Mir has won the 2020 MotoGP World Championship after finishing in seventh place at the Valencia Grand Prix.
After six podiums and a win, the Team Suzuki Ecstar rider came into the race with a 37 point advantages over his nearest challenger but a superb defence of seventh until the final corner secured the Majorcan his first title in the premier class of motorcycles.
This title win makes Mir the first Moto 3 Champion to win the premier class title and Suzuki’s first riders title for 20 years.

Arriving in Valencia for the first of two rounds, Mir was now the clear title favourite and a win in the the first race, the European Grand Prix, did nothing to dampen spirits as he won his first MotoGP race.
Having qualified 12th on Saturday for the second race, Mir battled hard and a strong defensive ride after moving into the top eight was all the Majorcan needed to become only the third Spaniard and second Majorcan to win the premier class title.
