Gloucester based professional boxer Jay ‘The Kid’ Pitman says he “Can’t wait to fight in his home city”, as he prepares for his second professional bout.
“I can’t wait, it’s the first pro show in Gloucester in about 8 years so the atmosphere is going to be unreal. It’s a really special event to be fair, especially it being in GL1.
“When I was younger I used to do blindfolded pad-demo’s on the pro shows that were held there, so returning for my second pro fight it’s going to be surreal.”
The 19-year-old is up against Jake Pollard, 33, from Bradford, a man who once fought on a TNT Sports card against the unbeaten Charlie Hickford, so it will be a real test for the youngster.
“I know a few people that have boxed him and he’s a real tough fighter and he’s the type of fighter who can stand there and have a real scrap as well, which is good. So I’m expecting a tough fight and I can’t wait for it.”
Pitman’s original fight date in December was cancelled just days before the event was set to take place, which led to the fight being moved to March, staying committed and focused on the fight is what was most important for the fighter.
“The day I made weight for the fight was the day it got cancelled. You know, I was buzzing for this fight. I felt like really good, was literally counting down days, then I got a phone call from my manager and he was like, the show is cancelled, It was like it was a dream honestly I couldn’t believe that it was actually cancelled after all that hard work just for it to be thrown away like that.
“I got offered to fight in London about a week or two later, but trying to sell tickets at a more expensive price further away, closer to Christmas, wasn’t really realistic. So I said to my manager that I think I’ll leave it, stay in the gym and then just get ready for this one.”
‘The Kid’ is currently unbeaten at 1-0, after defeating Kiernan McAfee just three months ago, in a unanimous points decision win. He cruised through the four round fight, and ended the day with his arm raised by the referee, to the delight of the supporting crowd.
āMy debut was good. Everything went to plan and I have been waiting for that day for so many years, so for it to go as well as it did, I couldnāt be happier with it.
āIād like to stay undefeated. Obviously there is going to be some tough fights in the future, but the way I am training I would like to say that no one can beat me right now.ā
The event is headlined by the unbeaten local fighter Jack Bannister, who is facing off with Sherif Musah and Lewis Roberts vs Logan Richardson two Swindon based boxers, who are also both unbeaten.
Tickets are selling fast, and the fight takes place on the 29th March, at GL1 Leisure Centre in Gloucester, with tickets on sale at www.neilsonboxing.co.uk.
