“It’s a big one”- Gloucester City boss Daf Williams on mid-week clash against playoff fighting Gosport Borough

Gloucester City manager Daf Williams says “It’s an opportunity to put our away record right” ahead of their match against Gosport Borough on Wednesday night.

Gloucester have the opportunity to go second over Poole Town with this game in hand but Williams admits it will be a tough test

“It’s a big one because they’re a good team. They’re fifth and their home record is very good.

“The result is the priority, but we feel if the performance levels are right, we give ourselves a great chance of getting a result.”

It will be Gloucester’s second game in four days as part of a period where the Tigers play three times in seven days, with Williams ready to embrace the challenge.

“It’s nothing my players aren’t used to. There’s been different periods of the season where the schedule has been really demanding. It’s the first time we’ve gone three away games in a matter of a week, so it’s definitely that little bit more demanding because of that.

“Ultimately, it’s these difficult challenges that present itself throughout the season if you want to get to where we want to get to. So I welcome the challenge. As soon as I face a little bit of adversity, I roll my sleeves up and I attack it and I’d like to think the players are that way inclined as well.”

Keiran Thomas made his return to the pitch on Saturday away at Sholing with Williams highlighting the importance of having his skipper back.

“We haven’t really lost his voice in the dressing room because he’s been in and around it and he’s been brilliant in terms of that.

“But it does make a difference when you’re in there and you’re involved so he’ll be relishing that. His influence both on and off the pitch is so important, so we’re really glad to have him back.”

In the past few weeks, three new signings have made their way through the door for City with the manager being impressed by how quickly they have started.

“I think all three signings have been fantastic. I think firstly Morgan Lewis is a really good player for the level. He brings in a little bit of experience as well despite his age and he’s been a solid addition down that left-hand side.

“Jamal Mohamed from West Brom has come in and I think everybody can see that he’s a real talent. So he’s been a really strong addition to that back line.

“As for Rylie Siddall, we haven’t seen as much of him as we’ve seen of theĀ other two, because he came in at a period where we haven’t trained, he’s only had one session really.Ā

“So we’re seeing him for the first time in the flesh. No doubt he’ll start having more of an impact over the next couple of games because he looks like a real good player.

“For him and Mohammed it’s their first loans. So it’s as much of a really important time for them and a great experience for them as it is for us and I think for all parties it’s a loan that will work out quite well.”
