“He’s got the natural ability to take players on” – Cheltenham Town’s Ryan Jackson on Adulai Sambu

One of the biggest bright sparks of Cheltenham Town’s 3-0 victory over Bristol Rovers Development on Monday night was the performance of right wing-back Adulai Sambu.

The 18-year-old is highly thought of within the set-up at Cheltenham and has impressed whenever he’s been called upon by the first-team, as well as whilst he’s been out on loan.

Sambu’s ability to take on players to get past his man is something that has really impressed first-team wing-back Ryan Jackson.

Jackson and Sambu have a good relationship in training, with the prior looking to use his experience to help out the youngster.

“I’ve spoken to Ads in training, I like to give him any little pointers so I can try to help to add to his game,” revealed Jackson.

“He’s got the natural ability to take players on so if I can help with that why not.”

The youngster impressed on Monday evening, picking up an assist for on-loan defender Elkan Baggott to give the Robins the lead.

“I try to check up on him, while he’s on loan and with the Under-18’s, just while he’s expressing himself, getting goals and assists. He’s doing well at the moment,” said Jackson.

Sambu is undoubtedly one to look out for in the youth ranks at Cheltenham, with the long-term future of the right-back position in good hands.

At 32-years-old, Jackson can’t go on forever, however, with Sambu waiting in the wings, the future at the Completely Suzuki Stadium looks good for the Robins.
