Gloucester Rugby’s George Mcguigan forced to withdraw from England Six Nations camp due to knee injury

Having earnt his first England call up, Gloucester Rugby’s George Mcguigan has now been ruled out of the England squad due to a knee injury and is replaced by Bath’s Tom Dunn.

The hooker, who joined the Cherry and Whites from Newcastle Falcons in December, played 76 minutes on Saturday as Gloucester secured their place in the last 16 of the European with a 26-17 victory against Bordeaux Begles.

The injury leaves Gloucester incredibly short in the hooker department, with Jack Singleton and Santiago Socino already sidelined.

Furthermore, Mcguigan’s forced departure means that there will no longer be any Gloucester rugby representation in Steve Borthwick’s first England squad when they get their Six Nations campaign underway against Scotland on the 4th February at Twickenham.

Experienced campaigner Courtney Lawes has also withdrawn from the squad and is replaced by Northampton lock David Ribbans.
