Ireland’s finest El Fabiolo eased to victory by four lengths in the 2.10pm Sporting Life Arkle Challenge Trophy Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham Festival.
This is the second win for an Irish horse in this year’s festival after Marine Nationale triumphed in the opening race ahead of both his fellow compatriots Facile Vega and diverge.
The top three in the Arkles Chase was completed by British horse Jonbon who finished in a close second followed by Saint Roi who came third.
This is trainer Willie Mullins’ 89th Cheltenham victory and his 5th Arkle win in the last nine years. “It was a huge ask for him in a big race,” said Jocky Paul Townend to ITV Racing.
