Cross Country Chase at 2024 Cheltenham Festival has been abandoned after heavy rainfall

The Cross Country Chase, originally scheduled to be the fifth race run today, has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled due to the inside course at Prestbury Park being waterlogged.

With the area receiving 11mm of rainfall throughout the day yesterday, Tuesday, March 12. The Cross Country course in Cheltenham has been deemed unraceable.

While it’s scheduled to be dry today, with more rainfall predicted to fall over both Thursday and Friday, the decision to not reschedule the race has been made.

The new race times are as follows: Gallagher Novices’ Hurdle, 13:45, Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase, 14:30, Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle, 15:15, Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase, 16:00, Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Challenge Cup Handicap Chase, 16:50, Weatherbys Champion Bumper, 17:30.

In other news the rest of the course has been deemed to be going soft (heavy in places), while Nicky Henderson has decided to withdraw three of his horses after a poor performances from all bar one of his horses yesterday.

This includes Jonbon who was favoured to be El Fabiolo’s closest rival in the Champion Chase.
