The sporting world has continued to discuss the finale of the 2021 Formula 1 season on Sunday, which saw Max Verstappen pip Lewis Hamilton on the last lap to win the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, winning the Driver Championship as a result.
Verstappen’s win meant he denied Hamilton his record breaking eighth World Drivers’ Title, leaving the Briton still tied on seven with Michael Schumacher.
Fans have continued to debate the decision to allow lapped cars to overtake the safety car, as the rules suggest should be done, but only cars between Hamilton and Verstappen were allowed to, which some felt were egregious.
Formula 1 fan Abdullah Sahid was in attendance at the Abu Dhabi GP, and felt that the decision was justified by the Race Director Masi, suggesting that “My position is that the race director Masi said it quite well “”It’s called motor racing”” and to me, that was the only decision to be made.”
