Cirencester Town have been knocked out of the FA Vase after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat against league rivals Longlevens in the second round of the competition.
Despite having the majority of possession, Ciren couldn’t make it count, and missed out on a place in the hat in the third round.
Assistant manager Sam Farr claimed, “Obviously we’re disappointed to go out. Credit to Longlevens, I think they defended really well. They had a game plan, and they stuck to it. We had a lot of possession, so we were disappointed not to score; we created enough chances to. Again, credit to Longlevens. They had one chance, and they took it very well, and I guess that’s football.
“I don’t think we played bad. Longlevens had a really good shape. That final ball was lacking, and I don’t know what it is, because last Saturday, in the league against Stourport Swifts, we scored four, and the Saturday before that we scored six. Goals aren’t usually an issue for us.”
With the side sat 13th in the Hellenic League Premier Division on 21 points, Cirencester coincidentally have five games in hand over 12th-placed Levens, and eight games in hand over Corsham Town, who have played 12 times in the league this season.
“Now that we’re out of the FA Vase and the FA Cup, there are other cup competitions coming up, but we’re looking forward to having some league games to focus on, and hopefully, if we can win some of these games in hand, we’ll be right up there in the top five come Christmas.
“We’ve got a really good group, we’ve got good quality and good depth. We want to be in that top five, in the mix for promotion. I think we’ll make no bones about it. That’s the target come the end of the season.”
