CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL – Jango Baie shocks punters to win as Nicky Henderson enjoys his eighth Arkle victory- Report and Reaction

Nicky Henderson won his eighth Arkle in an absolute nail-biter of a race.

Nico De Boinville bagged his first win of this year’s festival and 50th Grade one victory as he now looks forward to showdown on Constitution Hill against Brighterdaysahead later in the Champion Hurdle.

Majborough was a heavy favourite going in ( 8/15), L’eau Du Sud and Jango Baie both (11/2) were well backed, but it was Jango Baie who came out of nowhere to fly through and win at the line.

“Then it all of a sudden fell into my lap after jumping the last. I thought, ‘Oh, gosh, we could be in with a squeaky here!’

“We know he stays two and a half, he’s really seen it out well, but I was run off my feet early doors.”

Trainer Reaction – Nicky Henderson

“He’s never been as fast as when he came up the hill. That’s as fast as he’s ever been in his life!

“The stamina was always going to be there, he’s only a young horse, but he was very brave to suddenly take off like that, flew the last from what I was watching.

“I didn’t think he got anywhere near them I must admit, but the girls were pretty convinced that he’d pass the lot!”
