Bunker aims to increase scoring tally in promotion push as his strike sends Forest Green top against York

Forest Green Rovers’ midfielder, Harvey Bunker hopes more goals come his way following his stunning strike in Rovers’ 2-0 win over York City.

Bunker, who netted in successive matches, opened the scoring picking out the top corner from distance, sending Rovers top of the National League on Saturday.

“We knew how tough it was going to be going up against York, but it was a great 2-0, a clean sheet a great team performance.

“It was tough at the start trying to figure them out but, in the end, we showed that we have just as much quality as they do,” Bunker said.

That followed on from his close ranged strike during Rovers’ 4-1 win over Maidenhead United the weekend prior taking his tally to three goals in all competitions which the midfielder hopes will increase.

“I can’t complain about that. I just hope there is a few more to come.

“I scored three goals this season and most of them have come from Kyle [McAllister] laying the ball off to me. He played a lovely set which just freed me up to hit the back of the net.

“We’ve had a few injuries and thankfully the gaffers put his trust in me so I’m always just trying to repay him for that.

“I’ll be pushing to score every game because I want to add goals to my game but all I want to do is help the team push up the league,” he said.

Alongside his goals this season, Bunker has provided some impressive celebrations taking inspiration from some of the Premier League’s finest.

Last Saturday at Maidenhead Bunker capped his goal off with cold Cole Palmer inspired celebration before taking aim with another sharp shooters celebration following his opener over York.

“That was just Dominic Solanke. I’ve been watching a bit of the Premier League recently and stealing a few of those lads’ celebrations,” he said.

Spirts appear to be high in the Rovers’ camp now sitting two points clear at the top of the National League but Bunker and his side know it’s too early to get carried away, as reminded by boss, Steve Cotterill.

“As players we know that he [Cotterill] reminds all the time that we haven’t done anything yet, we’ve won a few games.

“It’s nice to be at the top but every team is trying to knock you off, so we’ll have to work hard for every three points.”

“Now it’s about not getting ahead of ourselves and focusing on Southend next weekend, going there to get another three points,” Bunker said.

Rovers travel to the south-east on Saturday November 23rd as they prepare to face Southend United for their next National League clash.
