BREAKING: Sarina Wiegman signs Lionesses contract extension

Lionesses boss Sarina Wiegman has signed a new contract with the national team, keeping her in post until the end of Euro 2029.

Wiegman took charge of the side in September 2021, and has since lifted back-to-back Euros in 2022 and 2025, as well as reaching the 2023 World Cup final, where they lost 1-0 to Spain.

The 56-year-old commented on her new deal, saying, “I am so happy to be able to carry on with this squad and cannot think of a better job in football. Working for a world-class organisation like The FA, alongside so many people dedicated to winning England teams and growing our game, excites me every day.

“I am grateful to Mark Bullingham, Debbie Hewitt and the FA Board for the incredible way they have backed me, my coaches and support team and, of course, the players.

“I am honoured by their trust, which I never take for granted and want to keep this great partnership going. I have such a strong desire to see what more we can achieve together with our amazing fans.

“I also want to keep supporting the wonderful collaborative work being led by The FA across the women’s game, particularly in developing young players and coaches.

“Of course, anyone who knows me will understand that my main concern right now is absolutely the World Cup, and helping this squad realise their potential in the years to come. We have an important job to do to confirm our place in Brazil, and hopefully we can do that and give the country another special summer to remember next year.”

Wiemann’s next matches in charge are as important as ever, with her England side taking on Ukraine in the World Cup Qualification Play-off final, having successfully navigated their way past Greece earlier this month.
