AI workout videos have been popping up across all social media platforms and people are following these videos thinking it will help them get/keep fit.
Pilates and yoga instructor Dan Five, who helps men and women aged 50 and over has had a few people come to him after they took some free classes on the internet, when speaking about it he expressed a lot of concerns and upset towards the issue.
“With these videos you don’t know if you’re doing it right. It doesn’t help with their confidence no matter their age. A lot of people are like am I doing this right?, it’s usually the question I get asked most.
“Like the videos are great for the generic, but not everyone can do everything. So when someone comes to my class, I can try and tailor the class towards them based of injuries they may have.
“These videos give people false hope and then they don’t achieve the results they want, they give up when that happens. So I would say it’s having a negative effect, because they are missing out on the socialisation side of human interaction and making new friends.”
Another issue that is becoming more popular on social media is weight loss drugs and injections. They may be more hard to come across just in videos, but they are slowly creeping onto people feeds. Especially with celebrities and the beauty standards that are set, and how they are lying about taking them.
When asked if he had any issue with people being on the drugs or injections Fivey shared some brief information on it,
“I’ve had a few come to me saying their partners are on it. I have a couple of men who tend to want to do men things like sit in a shed so they are normally the ones taking the short cut.”
A big thing social media can help with is putting your name out there in the local community and can bring attention towards you and your classes. A lot of businesses and companies are known to mainly use social media as a source of advertising now.
Fivey has been honest about how he advertises,
“It costs my £15 a month, as I only advertise to certain demographics mainly 49-65.”

“Most people see my posters at the bus stop, or the church and things like that. With Facebook, I do some posts that costs me around £50 a month and I gain one or two new clients every month which is good and helps in a bigger way that people think.”
“AI and social media has a different approach to other trainers who use it to reach a younger audience, but depending on the age group people are trying to market towards.”
