Longlevens AFC defeated Kidlington FC to secure their spot in the 2nd round of the FA Vase. Manager Buster Davies stated that he was “Over the moon.” Before adding, “The boys were excellent; to be honest with you, it’s probably the hardest regional draw we could have had in this competition. But being eight games undefeated in the league definitely helped us. Coming here as the underdogs today, the boys were excellent.”
It was a quickfire first-half double from Longlevens’ Ethan Vaughan and Fin Gwillim saw them cruise to victory, with Davies saying, “Before we went out, we said we need to be solid throughout, and when the front three do their job in getting us ahead, it makes life a lot easier because then we just need the back five to do theirs, and that’s what they did.”
Davies went on to speak about the club’s president, who won £1,000,000 in the lottery last week and seemingly plans to invest it in the club. “It’s excellent for the club; it secures our future for the long run, that’s the main thing. We have to make sure we get the infrastructure set, and that it’s not just a short-term fix or something we can immediately gain; we have to think about the long term and how we can grow the club on and off the pitch.”
