The University of Gloucestershire’s Men’s Football club are going the extra mile this year for their Movember campaign.
The boys in blue are participating in a number of fundraisers throughout the month of November in order to raise money for MIND Charity.
These include a daily running challenge, a charity football match taking on UOG Cricket and two members stepping into the ring at an amateur boxing event.
Club Captain Macsen Rhys-Williams is attempting to run 5K everyday in the month and appreciates the importance of the campaign.
“Men’s mental health is an issue that is not talked about enough so this month is massively important to us as a club.
“We are a really close group but know that we probably don’t talk enough about the more serious subjects in life.
“I know it’s going to be tough (running everyday), but it’s for a brilliant cause and I know it will make a major difference.”
On the final day of the month, a handful of members will be doing a ‘Campus to Campus’ run, which will cover all of the University’s campuses in Cheltenham and Gloucester.
The distance ran will be further than a half marathon with other sports clubs at the University joining throughout the event.
Rhys-Williams believes having other team’s participate will highlight the togetherness within the University.
“We (Gloucestershire) are not the biggest University but I believe the relationships we have built with other clubs is something that makes us unique.
“To have them get involved not only on the final day but throughout the month will show how strong our connections are.
“I’m hoping that by the 30th most of the lads would have built up a good level of fitness and will be able to do the majority if not the whole run!”
The club are hoping to raise £1000 across the month with each event contributing to the total.
