Forest Green Rovers Women’s Jen Gray on “tough conditions” to make FA Cup First Round for the first time in 10 years

Forest Green Rovers Women’s midfielder Jen Gray is proud of her team’s performance as they battled to a 3-1 victory away to Royal Wootton Bassett Town.

Goals from Leilani Ryder, Hattie Jones and an own goal booked them a first round tie away to Dartford on Sunday 26th October.

“I think any FA Cup game is a different type of game.”

Rovers Women haven’t made it past the FA Cup First Round since 2015 where they were knocked out by Gillingham on penalties after a 1-1 draw, and have never made it past the Second Proper Round.

Gray is ready to try again after a dominant start to the season, winning four from four.

“To get a good run, and get into the first proper round, that is really big for the club.

“Girls have been working really hard on the training pitch and bringing that onto the pitch.

“We are a new group of players and how quickly we’ve gelled is really impressive.”

Rovers were knocked out last time by Gillingham on penalties after a 1-1 draw

The weather proved to be challenging for the visitors and defender Hattie Jones knew that the battling would be hard.

“Games like this where there are tough conditions, pitch isn’t very good , windy conditions and a very good opposition that makes those games extra tricky, especially with the added pressure.”
