UOG Mens Football Team captain Dylan Venn is “very confident” ahead of Varsity clash with Worcester University

University of Gloucestershire team captain Dylan Venn said his side is “out for revenge” when they play their Varsity rivals Worcester on Monday, 7th April at the Tiger Turf Stadium, Gloucester.

Venn played in his team’s Varsity loss last season away at Worcester and will be hoping to set things straight in a month’s time.

The training squad gets picked tonight by coach Ivor Gunn which will be revealed in a team meeting later on after training.

Venn and his side will see tonight as they commence in the build-up to their biggest game of the season.

“I wouldn’t say we have any extra nerves, I think we have a good enough squad across all three teams. It’s a strong 26-man squad we are taking, so I think a lot of the boys will be confident and hopefully, we get the job done in April.

“I think all the boys want a little bit of revenge, you never want to lose a varsity game against your rivals so I think everyone is up for it and hopefully this year we win.”

The central midfielder was in good spirits around the weeks coming up and thought his title-topping side have a better chance in Varsity this year.

“I am confident.”

“I am very confident, we have great league form. We’re top of the league and Worcester have been struggling a bit after their promotion, I think they are bottom of their league.

“I am confident.”

Between now and Varsity, Venn’s side has the opportunity to win the Bucs Western Tier Three by claiming one more point in their last two games.

With these games being played before varsity, Venn was clear in their order of priorities.

“Taking our form into the last game of the season, I think we have been really good.

“We feel really confident after our last couple of wins at home.

“With the varsity game, we still have a few weeks ahead, we still have a lot of training and a lot of stuff in the schedule before that so I think all of our eyes are on that league title then we look at varsity after that.”

The UoG side will handle their preparation more professionally in the weeks building up to Varsity with a substantial change to their social lives, especially their fun-filled Wednesday evenings.

“Before varsity, we have a drinking ban so we will do some sober socials.

“We will do things like play bowling or play darts.

“We will try as much as we can to get the boys morale high before the big game.”

Venn and his first team will continue to train, strength, and condition as usual with a busy spring schedule ahead.
