Tragedy strikes on first day of the races as two horses sadly pass away at Cheltenham Festival.

Highland Hunter (11) and Ose Partir (four) tragically passed at the races yesterday, Highland Hunter died after being injured in the final stages of Tuesdays third race and Ose Partir passed away in a fall, three races later.

Ose Partir died whilst taking part in the Boodles Juvenile Hurdle. The horse was one of two brought down by another horse, Karia Des Blaises, when he fell at the fourth hurdle.

A spokesperson for the race course said: “Highland Hunter was immediately attended by expert veterinary professionals in the concluding stages of our third race but sadly passed away.”  (courtesy of Sky Sports)

It’s always dreadful when a horse passes away and yesterday was no different with Fergal O’Brian saying that the only comfort he could take from Highland Hunter’s sad death at Cheltenham on Tuesday was that he was now with Keagan Kirkby.

Highland Hunter, who in recent time won a valuable prize at Newbury, bowled along at the head of affairs in the Ultima Chase on the opening day at the Festival, putting in some fantastic leaps but alas was unable to be saved.
