After racing to a huge 19-point lead and a bonus point guarantee in the first 40 minutes, the Bristol Bears charged on and shut down Bath, coming away with a 36-26 win.
Bristol, seemingly bouncing back from their recent home derby loss to close rivals Gloucester on Friday and handing Bath their first loss of the season in what is one of the biggest rivalry games in Premiership Rugby.
Oghre spoke about fire behind the fixture: ”It’s very emotional but it’s about channeling it through focusing on what we want to do, the key areas that we are focusing on the game and understanding and respecting the people that have come before us at Bristol.
“We have that in our coaching staff, we have messages from past players and that was big for us just doing that jersey proud today and doing that through sticking to the system and working as a team and we executed that well today.”
Hooker and England International hopeful Gabriel Oghre put in a demanding display and picked up the Man of the Match award, not only scoring a try, Oghre set up Janse van Rensburg barreling effort for Bristol’s third of the day.
“I love to get my hands on the ball and the way we play were known for being very attacking and that gives me the opportunity to get the ball which I love.” Oghre said
“Today I think we were good defensively as well a couple of sets we held them out for 10 minutes in our 22 with yellow cards and I enjoy defending we as well enjoy it as a team and again, we played well today.
“I mean it was amazing to score but obviously it was a team try, I dotted it down behind a maul, so it was more relief to score and get closer to that win.”
After a string of great performances Oghre has found himself in the conversation of England Internationals and after being named in the England touring squad in June earlier this year, Oghre got the chance to learn from the very best in England.
Ogrhe said, “with the summer tour I learned a lot you learn of great players, especially in your position with Jamie George, Theo (Dan), you can always take little teachings and learn from them, it definitely gives you the hunger to put on that jersey.”
He was not picked in Steve Borthwick’s 36-man training squad for the forthcoming 2024 Autumn Nations Series but remained positive about his future in an England shirt.
“I’m not sure, I spoke to Steve and he spoke to me and said the decision he went with and obviously it is a very competitive position, and for me I learnt a lot I definitely have that hunger to want to play for England but for me it’s about focusing on playing well for Bristol as well, focusing on what I learnt on tour and putting that into practice in the games.”
