The JCB Triumph Hurdle: Lossiemouth wins for Paul Townend and Willie Mullins

The Friday of the Cheltenham festival kicked off with Lossiemouth winning the JCB Triumph Hurdle.

Paul Townend produced a fine ride to make it back to back winners in the race for Paul Townend, Willie Mullins and owner Rich Ricci after Vauban won the race last year.

Willie Mullins had a strong hand in the race and unsurprisingly landed the 1-2-3 with Gala Marceau and Zenta following Lossiemouth home.

Lossiemouth also became the fifth filly to win the race.

Despite having to fight with his horse for control, jockey Paul Townend was relieved to get over the line first

“It’s not ideal at that stage, to be honest. She just wanted to get on with it and I wasn’t gonna fight it!”

On the potential of Lossiemouth, Townend added: “She’s very good. She’s very professional here at Cheltenham and other races.

“Thankfully we were able to make up for the mishap and get the job done.”
