Swindon Town head to Notts County in search of a crucial three points following Saturday’s defeat to league leaders Bromley

Ian Holloway is looking for his side to bounce back after Swindon Town’s ‘sickening’ late defeat to League Two leaders Bromley ahead of their visit to Notts County.

Swindon suffered their third straight defeat at the hands of Andy Woodman’s Bromley side, following their prior back-to-back 3-2 defeats to Salford City in both league and cup action.

The Reds took the lead on Saturday afternoon through January signing Fletcher Holman, with the latest addition to Holloway’s side having had the opportunity to add more to his tally in the first half, combining nicely with Aaron Drinan and Ollie Palmer prior to a quieter second half.

Holloway said, “We got Ollie Palmer off their front line, we had the two quick lads up on their back line, and we worked it, and we played down the sides, and we scored, we could have scored again and should have scored just before half-time.

“Then we go out in the second half, and we’re not doing any of that. We midfield pass through them, we narrowed things off, played little triangles, brilliant.

“They couldn’t get anywhere near us, so why didn’t we do that in the second half?”

Following an important run of games, the Robins have fallen to sixth in the League Two table with Tuesday evening’s opponents breathing down their necks.

Responding to his side’s defeat after a tough run of games, Ian Holloway said, “That’s a big week, and we’ve lost every game, we haven’t deserved it, but we need to believe in ourselves, and we need to stick to what we’re doing.

“They’re [Bromley] nine points above us, we’re out of that other cup, we got beat by Salford.

“We’re sixth now, and we’re much better than that, but we didn’t carry out what we did in the first half. Why? Why not? Sickening.”

Despite the disappointing form, the Town manager saw an improvement from his side’s prior performances, with the Reds now searching for the result they’ve been looking for.

“They did respond; they responded to what happened at Salford, we took the good stuff out of that.

“I’ll be able to show them why they didn’t look like that in the second half. I have no idea. I have no idea, and it’s sickening.”

Swindon are set to travel to the East Midlands on Tuesday evening, with Meadow Lane being a ground that Swindon haven’t won at since October 2018, with that game being won via a Jamie Turley own goal.

Earlier this season, the Reds came from behind twice to rescue a point at the Nigel Eady County Ground via an Aaron Drinan brace.

Three points for Town in the mid-week clash could see them regain second place should results go their way; however, defeat would see them fall to seventh.
