Oxford United v Cheltenham Town Preview

After securing a 3-1 win over neighbours Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, Cheltenham Town face a trip to relegation threatened Oxford United on Tuesday night

Manager Wade Elliott expressed his relief at full-time on Saturday afternoon after his side secured three crucial points at The Completely Suzuki Stadium to ensure The Robins will be playing League One football next season.

An Alfie May double in addition to an Aidan Keena finish early in the first-half swept the already relegated visitors aside in a clinical display of attacking football in front of a jubilant home crowd.

Elliott was full of praise for his star striker after he bagged his brace on the weekend, but insisted he still has a role to play for the remainder of the season.

“Alfie’s achievement is fantastic, and to score 20 goals back-to-back is testament to his hard work.

Any number nine wants to score goals, and he is doing that”.

Attentions have quickly turned to Tuesday night however, where Elliott’s men will make the short trip down the A40 to face strugglers Oxford United.

Elliott explained that he has all attentions set on his opponents, despite now being mathematically safe.

“I have both eyes firmly set on Oxford, and I have done since full-time on Saturday, there is a sense of that around the training ground.

“We will worry about ourselves and not factor them in, the same as if you were to ask them about us.

Speaking about the reverse fixture, where Elliott confirmed he felt his side were hard done by with a questionable penalty call, the Cheltenham boss says his team haven’t forgotten that result.

We were a little bit wounded by that one to be honest, and we feel we due a dose of good karma and hopefully we get that against Oxford tomorrow night.

The Robins will look to continue their run of good form when they kick-off at the Kassam Stadium at 7:45pm on Tuesday evening.
