Goals from Anthony Martial and a late Scott McTominay was enough for Manchester United to claim a 2-0 victory over rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford.

January signing Bruno Fernandes, chipped the ball through to the Frenchman who struck under Ederson in the 30th minute before McTominay pounced on a Ederson trhow out to strike into an empty net with the last kick of the game.

Manchester City had a goal ruled out half way through the second half as Sergio Aguero was judged offside by VAR after going through on goal.

After a slow opening 20 minutes the first chance came the way of the home side. Martial nicked the ball from Fernandinho before selfishly shooting straight at David De Gea when teammate Bruno Fernandes was in space on the edge of the area.

It was then Fernandes who set up Martial for the only goal of the game. A free-kick 30 yards out from the City goal was chipped over to Martial who volleyed low under Ederson with the Brazillian keeper knowing he should have done better.

It was nearly a second mistake for Ederson that gifted United a second goal as the ball ran under his foot before he managed to recover to clear the ball before Martial could sneak in.

Man City’s best opportunity came in the 80th minute as winger Riyad Mahrez escaped down the right but his cross could not be converted by Raheem Sterling.

Substitute McTominay pounced on a loose throw from Ederson to hit into an empty net from yards out with the last kick of the game.

The win now means Liverpool only need two wins to claim the title and leaves Manchester United 3 points off the Champions League places.
