Liam Manning has revealed that Bristol City defender Cameron Pring is set to undergo surgery on his hamstring after the Robins’ 2-0 win against Rotherham United on Saturday.
Pring was substituted late in the match against the Millers after feeling tightness in his hamstring, which is a problem the ex-Cheltenham Town man has been nursing over recent months.
“He tightened up in his hamstring, he’s actually in for surgery so that’s him done now,” Manning said after the win.
Pring has been a staple on the left flank for City this season and under Manning he’s been asked to play on the left of a back four, of a midfield four and in a back three at times.
The 26-year-old joined City in 2016 but hasn’t always been a regular. Pring has spent time on loan at Cheltenham, Portsmouth, Walsall and Newport County in the past, as well as several non-league clubs.
In 42 Championship appearances this season, Pring has netted one goal and provided three assists.
Manning added: “We’ll see what the hamstring is, he doesn’t think it’s bad so hopefully it isn’t. He’s needed it (surgery) for a little while, it’s nothing major.”
City have struggled with several defensive injuries in recent times, Rob Atkinson has been sidelined all season after an ACL injury, while Kal Naismith has struggled for game time with recurrent hamstring and calf problems.
Despite the need for surgery, the City boss is confident that Pring won’t miss any of his sides pre-season campaign: “Now is a good time to get it done to make sure he’s in a good spot for pre-season… He won’t be long.”
