Caldwell Potter led from the front to win Paul Nicholls his 50th race at the Cheltenham Festival. Harry Cobden with a super ride up the hill for the grey to win the second race of St. Patrick’s Thursday.
Huge outsider, Anyway, ridden by Darragh O’Keeffe rode in second at 125/1!
In unfortunate news Springwell Bay had a fall in the race that has been fatal. Thoughts are with all associated at this time.

“Brilliant, she’s been very a very difficult horse to train fair play to Paul and Clifford and all the time at home because this horse hasn’t come without it’s problems but its giving 110% today.
“Travelled great, jumped beautifully and I just had to get the fractions right!
“He was very quick, very efficient and I just felt on the way round I was taken lengths out of other horses and you watch them at the ditch at the top of the hill he half took me on into that and he was so so good and he sprung up in the air. Brilliant and I couldn’t be happier.
“When you don’t have the horses it’s a long week and we got a bit of stick when this horse came along because of his price tag but he’s proved everyone wrong, he’s cheap now!”
Trainer Reaction- Paul Nicholls:
“I don’t take no notice of that, I am delighted for the Hales family for John he’d be up there watching.
“John put his money where his mouth is and bought him. And it’s a relevant one, when they come in the yard they are all worth the same, you treat them the same, some of them take a little while to know and get the best out of him but we’ve got him right.
“He’s a proper horse, just need a bit of patience.
“Everyone had opinions but I was convinced he was a stallion.
“He can gallop all day, he jumps well and I think we’ve only scratched the surface with him.
“I never have been away you just have to the right horse don’t you. I am pleased for all the Hales family and for all the unfair stick they’ve got.”
