Langer Dan won the Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle, the third race on Wednesday to give Dan Skelton his first race at the Festival
The 23-runner field was led by a trio of Beacon Edge, Mark Of Gold and Western Fold, with the favourite Built By Ballymore sat towards the front of a chasing pack
Last year’s winner Langer Dan was held up in midfield and Willie Mullins live hope Sa Majeste was sat a little prominently on the inside.
Coming down the hill it was an open race, but Langer Dan sat in a pocket behind Shanbally Kid and Beacon Edge.
Over the last flight, Langer Dan gained the momentum ahead of Shanbally Kid and extended up the hill to win the race for a second time.
Langer Dan wasn’t up to scratch throughout the season, with no top three finish recorded, and ulcers sighted almost ruling him out of the Festival
He is the first horse ever to win the Coral Cup twice and gives Harry and Dan Skelton their second win in the race as well.
